TIPS FOR HEALTHY EATING
Choosing healthy and right type of food stuff for you is very important to prevent diabetes, control diabetes, heart disease and weight.
In today’s busy and hectic lifestyle, it may seem difficult to prepare healthy food at home. Don’t worry! You don’t have to go for those costly ‘diabetic foods’. But you can follow some simple steps to eat and stay healthier.
While buying, remember-
- Plan your meals before hand, try a weakly meal plan.
- Make your grocery list according to that plan, this will save a lot of time at the grocery shop.
- Always go for shopping with a grocery list.
- Always keep some healthy basic foods in your kitchen like brown rice, oats, whole grain pasta, cereals etc.
- Avoid canned or frozen food (you can keep some canned vegetables and fruits for use in case you run out of fresh ones).
- Never go for shopping when you are hungry. You’l end up buying less healthy food.
While eating, remember-
- Include more fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains for your meals.
- Use low fat dairy productsexample toned or double toned milk.
- Buy leaner meats ( example chicken, turkey, lean cuts of pork and beef).
- Always buy whole grain foodstuff (breads and cereals).
- Avoid cold drinks, sweets, chocolates, chips and other fried snacks.
- If you are using canned food- drain and rinse with fresh water to remove extra salt and sugar.
- Start your meal with a salad plate or vegetable soup cooked at home.
- Try having roasted /grilled meat rather than fried.
- Avoid eating a dessert.
